This Deinonychus antirrhopus killing claw replica is based on a specimen  from the Cloverly Formation in Montana. Deionychus was an early member of the raptor clan that lived in the early Cretaceous period between 108-115 million years ago, distinguished by a large sickle shaped "killing claw" on its foot. Some scientists speculate that it was used to kick at the vulnerable bellies of its prey while hunting for food.
