A new dinosaur species has been added to the list of apex predators that roamed the Earth 70 million years ago, thanks in part to the work of Carnegie Museum of Natural History paleontologist Matt Lamanna. Lamanna was part of a research team that unearthed the specimen, named Joaquinraptor casali, in Argentine Patagonia. The only known skeleton was discovered with a bone of an extinct crocodile relative in its jaws, possibly the dinosaur's final meal. Joaquinraptor casali sheds light on the shadowy group known as megaraptors (giant-clawed, meat-eating dinosaurs, mostly from the southern continents).
